Renting with Pets
A recent study in the US revealed that pet owners make very good tenants, the kind that sign long term leases and take good care of their homes. There is little difference between the damage caused by pet or non-pet owning tenants. However in Australia pet-friendly rentals are thin on the ground as there is a stigma that surrounds tenancy with pets. The attached brochure, Renting with Pets by the Australian Companion Animal Council, offers some ideas to give pet owners the best chance to acquire a rental home. Information in it includes guidelines on:
- Finding a pet-friendly rental
- Applying form and securing a pet-friendly rental
- Responsible renting with pets
The article Tenants with Pets looks at renting by pet owners through the eyes of landlords and managing agents.
