Senate inquiry into regulatory approaches to ensure the safety of pet food
The Pet Food Industry Association Australia (PFIAA) welcomes the release
today of the Senate Inquiry into regulatory approaches to ensure the
safety of pet food.
The Inquiry considered current regulatory arrangements and oversight to
identify opportunities to enhance the safety and integrity of commercial
pet foods sold in Australia.
PFIAA President, Michelle Lang, said: "Pet health is of critical
importance and our members understand the trust that pet owners place in
pet food manufacturers to produce high quality, nutritious, tasty and
safe pet foods.
"The PFIAA calls for mandatory compliance to the Australian Standard for
all pet food sold in Australia and for the government to have the power
to enforce a mandatory recall.
"The Association looks forward to working with the Government and other
stakeholders on the consideration and implementation of the Standing
Committee's recommendations," Ms Lang said.
