PFIAA Code of Practice- Revision August 2009
The Pet Food Industry Association of Australia is proudly the custodian of industry standards and includes in its mission statement:
"to promote prepared pet food as the preferred method of pet nutrition reinforced through the establishment and self regulation of industry standards".
Since the most recent update was published in December 2007, there have been a number of new issues which the Association has now reflected in its Code. These include:
- clarification of use-by/best-by terminology and application in line with food industry guidelines (see clause 20.7)
- Addition of Appendix 3 guidelines for feed ingredient purchasing
- Addition of Appendix 4 melamine residues in line with international guidlines.
The revised version of the code also incorporates processing and manufacturing requirements and aligns to worlds best practice. It sets guidelines for manufacturers and seeks to improve product safety for pet owners.
PFIAA is proud of its leadership in self regulation of petfood in Australia and continues to welcome comment and suggestions from the public and regulatory authorities on improvements. Comments are invited using the 'comments' button on the header menu.
